Les Riceys and the Champagne tourist route
With its three villages gathered under a single name, Les Riceys cultivates three appellations at once: champagne, coteaux champenois and the rare rosé des Riceys. The Champagne tourist route winds here between vines and listed churches. Stopping at a cellar for a tasting, then wandering lanes scented with warm stone, sets a delicate frame for a first date.
Essoyes, with the Renoirs
In the village of Essoyes, the Renoir family found its haven: Pierre-Auguste came here to paint, and his son Jean, the filmmaker, spent part of his youth here. Renoir’s house and garden, carefully preserved, can be visited through the seasons. You come to understand where that unique light of his canvases came from. A fine excuse to extend the day in a village café.
Bar-sur-Aube, Clairvaux and local treats
Bar-sur-Aube, a medieval town, charms with its bell tower, its market halls and walks along the river. Not far away, the former Clairvaux Abbey, cradle of the Cistercian order, recalls the region’s spiritual mark. On Lyad, members from the Aube share their favourite winegrowers and quiet walks; it is up to you to find someone to clink glasses with.
